My journey started over 20 years ago with back pain and I went to a yoga class in hope of relieving this over a period of weeks. The flame was lit and I’ve been walking that path ever since.
Eight years ago I had a car accident which was caused by an epileptic fit. It then transpired that it was also the onset of Parkinson’s disease. I had numerous symptoms that I didn’t understand. Then we went into lockdown. I couldn’t see a doctor and it took ages to get the help I needed. It was a really worrying time and I was very much left in the dark.
The anguish and the pain was huge. It affected my ability to do my job as a hairdresser. My motor skills were affected; speed of movement and dexterity. I couldn’t do my job to its full capacity. This is my fifth year of being on medication after diagnosis and I have now found that yoga enables me to live well with Parkinson’s.
As I could no longer survive as a hairdresser, the space was created and I took the opportunity to train as a yoga teacher which has served me well. After more than 20 years of practising and I’ve now achieved the 200 hour qualification.
I am now able to share my knowledge and experience of how to manage pain and Parkinson’s symptoms.
